TVH Equipment is contributing to the construction of the Vilvoorde viaduct

"Exceptional circumstances call for exceptional equipment"

TVH Equipment is proud to make a significant contribution to the major works on the Vilvoorde Viaduct. The renovation of this impressive structure began in August 2023 and is expected to continue until the end of 2031.

The viaduct in Vilvoorde is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular parts of the Brussels Ring Road. At 1,700 meters long, over 30 meters high, and supported by 22 rows of pillars, this bridge is an iconic piece of Belgian traffic infrastructure. After 45 years of service, there is still no safety issue, but to ensure it can last for many more decades, a thorough renovation is necessary. The first phase focuses on the right half of the bridge and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

A job for technological high-flyers.
During this long-term project, the contractor will rely on various machines from TVH Equipment, including several truck-mounted platforms (51m, 65m, and 70m) and a rotating telehandler. In collaboration with Altrad Stellingbouw Balliauw, our truck-mounted aerial platforms are used to securely attach scaffolding and hanging structures to the viaduct. Our rotating telehandler is used to unload heavy materials.

A look into the future shows that in a later phase, self-propelled aerial platforms from TVH Equipment will also support the renovation process.

But our involvement goes beyond renting out machines. Truck-mounted aerial platforms that go higher than 38m require a certified and experienced operator with a C driver's license. Our operators are not only skilled drivers, but they also have a keen eye for safety. This ensures a smooth and trouble-free execution of the project. Given the complexity and specialized nature of this work, it is essential to rely on experienced professionals.

The renovation of the Vilvoorde viaduct is an excellent example of how the rental of specialized equipment plays a crucial role in large-scale infrastructure projects. The solutions provided by TVH Equipment, especially the high-reach truck-mounted platforms and telescopic handlers, were key to the success of the project. It would be interesting to learn about the specific safety regulations that had to be adhered to when using lifting platforms over 38 meters. Because if I see it correctly, this was a coordinated effort and industrial climbers were also needed. This height almost requires industrial climbing skills, not just the operation of a basket lift.
